James Cross Giblin, formerly of Painesville OH
James Cross Giblin is a two-time Ohioana Book Award winner for juvenile books.
He has written more than twenty critically acclaimed books for young people, including
The Life and Death of Adolf Hitler, which received the Robert F. Sibert Award for Informational Books, and
The Many Rides of Paul Revere, due out in October 2007.
In 2005, he also published an “adult” book, The Giblin Guide to Writing Children’s Books, a revised edition of
Writing Books for Young People originally published in 1990.
Giblin was born in Cleveland and grew up in Painesville.
He is a graduate with a bachelor’s degree from Case Western Reserve University and with an M.F.A. from
Columbia University. He has served as editor for Criterion Books and Lothrop, Lee, & Shepard Books, and is the founding editor of Clarion Books.
