April is National Poetry Month

April is National Poetry Month and Ohio is honored to claim several prominent poets
as native sons and daughters. Read about some noted Ohio poets, read some poems by Ohioans about Ohio and
review winners of
past poetry awards.
Essays and Sketches of Noted Ohio Poets
Essays and sketches on noted Ohio poets, many from the Ohio Legacy Series, a series of essays featuring various contemporary
Ohio authors and artists writing about how being from Ohio or how the work of other Ohio writers has influenced their own work.
Poetry By Ohioans About Ohio
Poetry about Ohio by Ohioans, originally featured in the 2003 Ohio Connections Project, in which
current and former Ohio writers were invited to submit poems, short fiction, and nonfiction works relating to their Ohio experience.
Ohio Author Radio Series
The WOSU Stations, in partnership with the Ohioana Library, and with support from the Ohio Humanities Council and We The People,
presented 52 radio features in 2005 celebrating Ohio’s rich literary and historical heritage and Ohio’s
contribution to American culture through the written word. Read and listen to the selected poets in the Series.
Ohioana Helen and Laura Krout Memorial Poetry Award
Information on and list of winners of the annual Ohioana Helen and Laura Krout Memorial Poetry Award, given yearly to an Ohio poet for a body of published work that has made, and continues to make, a significant contribution to poetry, and through whose work as a writer, teacher, administrator, or in community service, interest in poetry has been developed.
Ohioana Poetry Book Award
Each year Ohioana makes up to six awards to provide recognition and encouragement to authors for outstanding books in the categories of
